Aquatic Sports surged through to the final of the Alan Hood Memorial Trophy as they overcame Hylton CW 4-2 in an exciting encounter, this was the third consecutive week both teams had faced each other. However it was Aquatic who had that slight edge and goals from Carl Old who weighed in with an exquisite hattrick and a strike from Paul Cromack saw Dave Hoey’s side through to the final and also book a trip to the tailors to be measured up for their cup final suits. Hylton replied with goals from Anthony Wynn and Chris Maley.
Hendon Grange Global Gym were left with the derby day blues as they suffered a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of a Martin Hope inspired Blue House who kept their dreams of winning the Premier Division alive.
Blue House started the game strongly and it didn't take long for them to take the lead when Martin Hope broke through and slotted it past the keeper making it 1-0. Grange thought they had equalised but their effort was ruled out for offside, Blue House made the most of this as they quickly broke and a cross from Brian Carter was easily converted by Hope. The front two of Carter and Hope were terrorising the Global defence and it was soon 3-0 when Carter notched with ease after a fine pass from Hope. The Global keeper was kept busy as he made vital saves to keep the score down, but Blue House kept huffing and puffing and they blew the house down as they grabbed a fourth goal as Hope completed his hattrick when he broke through and cheekily chipped the keeper to give his side a healthy lead at half time.
The Gymboys came out for the second just to get a bit pride back and got it when they pulled a goal back, a comeback looked to be on the cards but Blue House repelled the threat and they soon got back into their stride with some excellent attacking football. It was soon 5-1as Alan Golightly was in the right place at the right time to place it past the keeper. The Grange simply crumbled and Blue House saw the opportunity to get more goals and the duly did as Hope grabbed a quickfire double to take his match tally to five goals. This took Martin Hope’s tally for the season to an impressive 30 goals.
In the other Premier Division game to be played, Houghton Town B returned to winning ways as they battered Dawdon CW into submission with a 8-2 win.
Dawdon got off to a great start and took an early lead, after they were dominating the midfield and getting right on top which drew frustration from the Town players. Dawdon then missed a glorious chance to increase their lead as they missed a hotly disputed penalty and then missed a sitter. This prompted Town into action and they started to move the ball about well and it was no surprise when Phil Dorian slid in to equalise from Dean Smiths shot cum cross, not long after skipper Stuart Archbold put Town in front with a well taken goal. Dawdon began to fall to pieces and it was no surprise when Town added a third when Southern powered home Harrisons corner. Dawdon managed to pull a goal back just before half time as they capitalised on slack defending.
After a stern half time team talk, Town came out all guns blazing as a strike from Smith restored Towns two goal lead and Andrew Steele then went on to grab a well taken brace to make the score 6-2. Harrison got the goal his display deserved and Smith got his second and Towns 8th, more chances were missed by Towns forwards but credit must be given to Dawdon who kept going right to the final whistle.
In the League Challenge Cup, the Jolly Potter advanced to the semi finals as they overcame Redhouse 4-1.The Potters were one up after only two minutes as the Dave Keithley latched onto a through ball to comfortably beat the keeper. Redhouse responded immediately, and were awarded with a penalty after Tommy Bell was brought down in the penalty area and the resultant penalty was saved by Chris Hunter in the Potters goal. Minutes later after further pressure from Redhouse were awarded a second penalty after Chris Hunter had brought down Bell, the penalty was converted and Redhouse continued to pressurise the Potter defence.
Redhouse were well on top and playing much the better football but they failed to add to their score as half time approached.
Whatever was said the Potters team at half time worked, as within 30 seconds of the restart Keithley lashed the ball in to the net from the edge of the box. Despite the setback Redhouse dominated until a third was added after a swift counter attack was finished off in style as Keithley grabbed his hattrick. The Potters clinched the tie as they added a fourth thanks to Jamie Marshall just before the final whistle.
The Potters win now means they face Chesters BB in a mouth watering semi final clash.
Chesters BB booked their place in the semi finals after they overcame a plucky Cambridge Hotel 4-2 after extra time.
Chesters took the lead as Liam Frame tapped the ball home from a neat Chapman knock down. This kickstarted the Cambridge into action as they stormed back and hit two goals through Craig McShane as the Chesters simply went to sleep. Chesters management took drastic action and introduced Richie King for his first game back after an 18 month layoff with injury and it worked a treat, as King won the equalising penalty after a heavy challenge from Cambridge left back, and Ian Redman coolly slotted the penalty to send the game into extra time.
Extra time came and this suited Chesters as their superior fitness showed as the Cambridge were dead on their feet, Kevin Berry floated a free kick into the box and it was met by King to put his side back in front. It was soon game over as Chesters took charge and scored a 4th in the second half of extra time as Ian Redman hit his second of the game with a blistering 20 yard free kick.

In the First Division,the Arms City Coachworks got their title charge back on track as they laboured to a 2-1 victory over Usworth FC. The Arms suffered a blow after only 5 minutes when star strike Jaker Baker was forced to go off injured. On fifteen minutes, the Arms took the lead as Richard Timm blasted in a free kick which warmed the keepers hands as it flew into the net. Usworth came back on the attack but their efforts were thwarted by the Arms no nonsense defending.
On 25 minutes the Arms went 2-0 up as they won a penalty, Richard Timm grabbed his second goal as he scored from the spot at the second time of asking sending the keeper the wrong way.
Usworth looked stronger in the second half and had a few shots but were unable to finish, the Arms also created a few but were unable to finish Usworth off. It was Usworth who grabbed the only goal of the second half as they gave themselves a lifeline as their centre half flicked in a corner. Ryan Ascherl was the Arms star man.
Sassco UK came unstuck as they Iost their unbeaten run as they were beaten 5-2 by Shiney Row Travellers Rest. It was as Sassco who came out the traps flying as they raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from star man David Gourlay and Mark Muers.
The Travellers came out for the second half like a pack of hungry wolves and forced Sassco onto the backfoot. It was the inspired play and invention of star man Rowntree which led to the Travellers revival and they hit back with goals from Parish and braces from Sinclair and Rowntree to round off a remarkable comeback.
The First Division has new leaders as Colliery Tavern took advantage of Washington Cricket Clubs inactivity as they stormed to a 5-0 win against Hylton Colliery Juniors at Rolls Royce. Anthony ‘turkey)’ Stokell started the rout as he latched onto a fine pass from the impressive Gavin Foot. Straughan then thought he grabbed the second but it was ruled out for offside much to the objection from the home supporters that were situated in the allotments. They were soon jumping for joy as Michael Bulmer notched for 2-0, the Tavern were in cruise control and their play resembled that of the great Liverpool team of the 80’s. Further goals from Gavin Foot, Darren Straughan and Carl Chapman wrapped up the win to send Margy’s men to the top of the league.

Park View picked up the points in a seven goal thriller as they won 4-3 against Shiney Row Country Park Inn.
The Cove came back down to earth after last weeks win as they crashed to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of The Saltgrass.
Ian Old led the way for the Saltgrass with a well taken hattrick and backed up with further goals from John hope and star man David Wilkinson. The Cove replied through Paul Munro, whose man of the match was Kyle Hourigan.
The Times Inn recovered well from last weeks surprise defeat as they easily brushed aside East Durham Spartans 7-3 at Thompson Park. The Spartans were looking to build on last weeks first win but found Times Inn in no charitable mood.
